What to expect during a pelvic health physical therapy visit:
Comprehensive evaluation: we will do a complete musculoskeletal evaluation, looking at your posture, pelvic and lumbar symmetry, movement patterns, strength, range of motion, and a pelvic floor muscle exam if appropriate. We will also palpate muscles to assess for trigger points and areas of your body that may be causing dysfunction. With this information we determine a plan of care and treatments that will best serve you.
Treatment: Your individual plan of care may include hands-on techniques to restore pelvic and lumbar symmetry, reduce muscle tension, increase flexibility, improve joint mobility, and address scar tissue. We utilize corrective exercise and functional retraining to assist with restoring posture and body mechanics, optimize movement patterns, and train coordination of abdominal and pelvic floor muscles. Exercises build strength, improve flexibility, improve relaxation for the pelvic floor muscles, and improve bowel and bladder habits.
