How to Poop After a C-Section
It’s not uncommon to experience some challenges with bowel movements after a c-section. This could include constipation, pain with pooping, or fear of pressure on your healing scar. Here are our top tips to help you poop better after a c-section:
✅Apply pressure over your abdomen/scar with a pillow. This supports your healing incision while you poop and reduces pressure on the scar tissue.
✅Place a squatty potty under your feet. This helps your pelvis, pelvic floor muscles, and rectum get in an optimal position to help you poop.
✅Make sure to drink plenty of water during the day. Proper hydration helps keep your intestines happy.
✅Include fiber and magnesium rich foods into your diet to help keep your gut happy

Learning how to breathe for better pooping and postpartum recovery
Diaphragmatic breathing is a simple yet powerful tool you can start day one postpartum to reconnect with your core, improve circulation, and reduce stress. It increases oxygen flow to healing tissues, promotes muscle recovery, and helps regulate the nervous system—which can even improve digestion and bowel movements by supporting the body's natural "rest and digest" response.
Breathwork also enhances abdominal and pelvic floor mobility, helping these muscles both relax and regain strength. You can practice it several times a day, especially before and during bathroom trips.
How to Practice Diaphragmatic Breathing:
1️⃣ Find a comfortable position – Sit or lie down with support.
2️⃣ Inhale deeply – Let your ribcage and belly gently expand. (INHALE = INFLATE)
3️⃣ Exhale naturally – Allow your belly and ribcage to recoil without force.
4️⃣ Breathe slowly – Focus on deep, relaxed breaths, gradually increasing duration over time.
This simple practice sets the foundation for core recovery, stress management, and better pelvic floor functionpostpartum. Try it daily for just a few minutes!
