Book recommendations to help heal chronic pain

As a pelvic health physical therapist, I’m a huge fan of providing recommendations for educational resources on pain. Because the more you know about your pain, the better equipped you are to take charge of your healing. Pelvic PT is so much more than stretches, exercises, and manual therapy, it’s also about education and helping you learn more about your body and how your brain is involved in the pain experience!

These are 6 excellent book resources that I often recommend to my patients during their pelvic physical therapy journey. Each book helps explain pain in a slightly different way and provides approachable education on a complex topic. We know that pain is complex and that it involves everything from our muscles, joints, nerves, tissues, thoughts, feelings, emotions, our support system, our coping strategies, etc and it can be so powerful to recognize and understand your personal pain experience.

Book Recommendations:

·      Why Pelvic Pain Hurts by Adrian Louw, Sandra Hilton, and Carolyn Vandyken

·      The Pain Management Workbook by Rachel Zoffness

·      Heal Pelvic Pain by Amy Stein

·      Explain Pain by Lorimer Moseley and David Butler

·      A Headache in the Pelvis by David Wise and Rodney Anderson

·      Why Do I Hurt by Adrian Louw
